Fluttering/rattle under light acceleration

I have a 2012 AWD Juke SV at around 68k miles. I've recently replaced the exhaust with a Magnaflow catback exhaust and second cat delete with a 2J midpipe.
I've installed a 2J pulley and an Injen SRI.

The car seems to drive fine and the mods have made it a lot more enjoyable. However, when I start the car cold, there is a flutter/rattle when accelerating at low speeds. The rattle is there whenever I have my foot on the accelerator at "residential" speeds ~25mph. If I lift my foot off the accelerator, the noise goes away. This seems to go away after 2-3 minutes of driving or once I get out on the main road. I don't hear the noise if I take the car out during lunch or when I leave for the day...but it's back again in the morning.
I tried to record this, but it's a bit hard to hear on the recording. It's definitely more audible in-person.

Any ideas?

Also, hello everyone, first post :D

No oil leak, but I'll have to check that out. Any reason why it would go away after a few minutes of driving?

that to me sounds like engine knock or like mentioned above, timing chain is loose and slapping the guides because the tensioner is maxed out.

With all the mods. Make sure everything is tight and nothing is rattling.

Oil viscosity changes. Parts get warmed up.

Still look for the obvious since you have bolted on things.

As an update, I started checking to make sure that everything was bolted on properly and decided it was time to check the oil. I checked and got absolutely no oil on the dipstick. I checked a few times and nothing, bone dry each time. There's a very slight incline where the car was sitting, but definitely not enough to go with these results.

I took the car to an oil change place and had them put in new oil. The guy said there was 1 to maybe 1.5 quarts of oil that came out of the car.
There is no oil leak that I can see. My driveway is clean and I've been checking for a while now. It's been around 2000 miles since my last oil change and I was going to get it changed with the CVT flush/67.5k maintenance checkup getting done tomorrow. Having seen how little oil there was, I decided to change it right away.

Having changed the oil, I do not hear this sound anymore.

I would be suspicious of the place not filling it correctly the last time it was changed.

Secondly, If it was filled and you used 2 quarts of oil. About the only thing to eat that with out noticing is the turbo seal. You can check it by removing some intake piping and seeing if there is a lot of oil there.

3rd. Since you ran her low on oil. You might want to invest in Motorkote. I highly recommend this stuff. Actually one of the few oil additives that seems to work.

This is enough for two oil changes.

The last place to change it was my Nissan dealership :( Regardless, I'll pick up some of the Motorkote and add that in. Thanks for the suggestion!

Its just a precaution. Check out this video.

Remember that the Amazon link was 32oz and thats enough for two oil changes.

btw. My sister had a 1996 Celica that a dealer serviced and they did not add enough oil. Blew the motor.

WarCow, please keep me posted if you find out any addition information. I have a manual 2013 Nismo, and mine was doing the exact same thing.

I was able to figure out that it was the timing chain rattling due to lack of oil, but no discernible oil leaks anywhere (even had it inspected by Nissan), and no visible signs of burning oil. Nissan suggested, some might be getting into the turbo, but I haven't taken anything apart yet to confirm. All I know is that on a full fill of oil, after about 2000 miles the oil is routinely at the bottom of the dipstick. I've just been monitoring closely and refill as needed in between regular oil changes.

Seemingly unrelated - every now and then I get an error code that states the coolant temperature cannot be read, and the engine will rev a little high until it inevitably corrects itself.

If I find out more, I'll post back.

I'll be checking the oil a lot more often now that I'm aware of this happening. I haven't taken the turbo apart, but I will be checking the turbo seal this weekend as recommended above. I haven't had any error codes show up.

I'll let you know if I find anything out.

I have a 2013 Nissan Juke 114000 miles. Mine just started making this exact same noise at low speeds for the first 5 mins of driving. The shop told me it could be lifters or a bad valve and basically get rid of it with no options of how to fix. I am wondering if you still have the car and we’re able to resolve the issues?

HEY! I just wanted to say thanks for posting/asking this! Apparently my google search was worded spot on with what you experienced! My car was sounding horrid under light acceleration. I read this last night, took it in for an oil change this evening and it is gone! Definitely recommend starting at the oil change for anyone experiencing this problem!
Thanks again for posting! Saved me from major worry.

Wondering if this is my issue. Had a place put 5w-20 instead of 30 and Temps have been in the 90s here in Atlanta. I only hear it when the Juke is in idle. I'll do an oil check later today after work.
Other than that, I thought it was maybe a plastic piece being stuck in a fan since the storage piece for my hood rod popped off.

Working on my car game, sorry if the terms are noobish.

Just get the oil changed to 5w30 full synthetic.

I just wanted to say thank you for this post!
I have had my little 2011 juke for just under a year. When I got it, it needed work, so my hubby (a mechanic) put new timing chains on it, a new turbo, a new battery, new ball joints, breaks and a new odometer guage. I got the oil changed in October, and it started making the same rattle sound just recently. My hubby couldn't get it today make the sound, but last night it did. I found your fourm and realized it might need oil. He checked and we had to add quite a bit, and today no rattle. Thank you for the help!
