You can rename the BT device in your phone.

Android is not giving me that option. It gives me the option of renaming my phone, but not the car.

Rename a Bluetooth device that is connected to your G1 smartphone.
1. Press Menu.
2. Select Settings.
3. Select Wireless controls.
4. Select Bluetooth settings.
5. Select Device name.
6. Type the name for your device in the dialog box.

That renames the phone, not the paired car name. But thanks. I've got the android SDK, I'll see if there's code in there I can monkey with. Looking for a reason to root the new phone
