Stock turbo

Good afternoon. I am rebuilding the stock turbo on my 2011. I’ve looked over the forum and could not find any step by step on how to rebuild one. So, does anyone have any instructions on how to accomplish this? I’ve split the halves and started cleaning. Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Stephen.

They can be rebuilt easily. I purchased the rebuild kit from Mambatech but a turbo shop can easily use yours though some may not as they can't guarantee the quality of the kit you supply, I'd call around first. All depends on whether the compressor and/or turbine contacted the housing in terms of reusability along with any foreign debri damage, that needs to be checked. I supplied brand new turbo components so didn't run into that issue. I can't remember the steps as it was simple but plenty of youtube videos show how it's done. The compressor nut tightening torque value is critical, this you want to confirm but again let a turbo shop worry about that. Very likely you have a cracked turbine housing at the wastegate orifice so I'd check that though it still might be usable. You can get a component balance or VSR balance but then they will disassemble it anyway to do that so no point in rebuilding it yourself. I paid $175 shipped with my supplied rebuilt kit which they accepted and sent it to Majestic TurboWaco (www.majesticturbo.com) and generally was happy with their service. Typical rebuild costs are minimum $400 anywhere else not including additional needed components so that's a judgement call on whether it's worth it or not.

Mine was component/soft balanced. TurboWaco basically stated after a careful soft balance the VSR would show minimal improvement from comparison testing of both methods, this is from an expert. It comes down to the skill of the person balancing it, thus the degree of VSR balance comes down to how well it's component balanced in the first place. The VSR isn't cheap to own/operate from what I was told.

For my case the new mamba components were very well component balanced to begin with from the turbo supplier and even Turbo Waco barely removed any material to complete the final soft balance that I could see though material could have been removed elsewhere. Typically they use a die grinder to nick the front hub repeatedly to bring it in balance on the VSR from what I've seen elsewhere. It's a higher cost to VSR balance but the buyer can make that call and I'd say go for it if the place offers it at a reasonable cost. They will not touch Ebay/non OEM components as I've said, you might have to buy their rebuild kit for them to warranty the rebuild but discuss with them.

Read this for an explanation of balancing options:
