So I know this topic has been brought up in a random corner or two of this site but I wanted to give it it's own post and share a little information in hopes that someone else might have been curious about this same thing and could share what they know.

I'm in the United Stated and am VERY excited about getting a 2011 Juke. The one thing that is a HUGE disappointment is the lack of a driver armrest. I frequently drive 500+ miles in a stretch (800+ km) and the thought of doing that without a center armrest nearly has me wondering if this is the right car for me. (And I *LOVE* this car so it's a painful thing to wonder).

However, there appears to be some hope!

In both Japan and the UK there appears to be official Nissan armrests available as options. Strangely, pictures have circulated that show them as slightly different looking.

To view the one on the Nissan UK site go to nissan.co.uk and then navigate to Juke and view accessories. (flash site so I can't post the direct link -- sorry)

In the UK the armrest isn't available until Dec 2010. This has me thinking that people have been complaining or dealers have given feedback to Nissan that it's an issue when trying to sell the car. (I know I've mentioned it to every dealer I have talked to as being an issue).

So.. an armrest is coming out in the UK and Japan (already out in Japan?).

Does anyone know (or have theories on) any of the following:

1. Will Nissan US release an armrest?

2. Will either the UK or Japanese one fit match the US interior options?

3. Could a UK or Japanese armrest be able to install in US Juke?

4. Would a friendly US Nissan dealer assist with the install of a non-US part or want nothing to do with it?

5. Is anyone else curious/concerned about this over site? I am kinda surprised that there isn't at least a bit single thread or conversation on this site about this topic..!

6. Juke owners worldwide! What is the story in your part of the world? Are us US drivers the only ones that want a center armrest? Maybe we drive longer/more than you? If you are in the UK are you getting an armrest? Seen one? Thoughts?

Hopefully other Juke aficionados out there have an opinion or information on this.. And hopefully we can get some enthusiasm for an armrest option here in the United States..! Nissan USA -- are you listening?

not a consideration for me. I never use the armrest in my Civic, so wouldn't miss it.

Yes, Armrest is very important to me and that's because I am used to it. It's just one of those things I don't want be without. That's why I will not buy one till they instal one in them.

I guess it's what's you're used to. I drive every day, but short distances. The only time I've ever put it down is when I'm driving for a trip, which is like --once a year. Otherwise it's just in the way and blocks access to the storage in the center and the parking brake. So you don't need one, really. However, by all means look for a car that fits YOU.

I have ordered an armrest. I showed the dealership the picture someone kindly posted of the Japanese version (not Nissan, I believe) and they said that was the one I will get.
Maybe because my Juke is coming from Japan?

Pilgrim,

Was the armrest an option presented to you by your dealer? Or did you ask them and show them a picture and they ordered it for you?

I am very interested to hear your experience because I very much want to know there is a solution to not having an armrest!

What I heard, the loose armrest will be resting IN the rearmost hole of the console and will be available in leather and syntetic.
I guess the middle console is the same on every car so it wil fit the US one too.

IN...? Do you mean it wont be physically secured to anything anyway other than just sitting inside a cup holder..? Screwed in? Glued..? Or just sit inside a upholder and use gravity..?

I'm hopeful the armrest will become available in the US.

After a weekend of driving the car I haven't missed it too much yet. My wife has noticed the lack of an armrest but she doesn't mind. She still wants to take my Juke for our next road trip.

Here's a picture from a UK forum, I hope this is the same one they'll release in the US. I like the way it looks, not out of place imho.

Arm rest and a few other things I would rather enjoy... Sun visor that actually extends to where your head is, not just 3/4 the way, rear dome light and storage for my glasses. I know it sounds like I am complaining, but no, I really do like the car, just see some things that were in my sentra that were very practical and are amiss here.

All very valid and good observations. I too would have liked more storage and a rear light. The motorcycle console sort of robbed us of some storage and a normal armrest, but I can't figure why there isn't a light in the back.

I sent an email to Nissan about the availability of the armrest in the US, since it is going to be offered in Japan and the UK... got this response.
Dear XXXXXX,

Thank you for taking the time to personally contact us regarding the Nissan Juke.
I have spoken personally with the Juke specialist and at this time there are no plans for a centre armrest.

Please check back periodically with your local dealership or check our website for the latest model information.

In the meantime, we will share your interest with our Product Planning Department.

If we can answer any other questions you have regarding Nissan vehicles, dealerships, or the Nissan North America family of companies, please contact us by return e-mail or call us at 1-800-647-7263 and press "0" for a live operator.

At Nissan, we are committed to a high level of customer service.

Sincerely,

Nissan North America

If you too are interested in this - please contact Nissan and let them know there is a demand for this to be offered in the US. If they have this accessory in other countries, so it only makes sense they could have it here if they feel the consumer need is there.

I've been letting my BD#1 drive my car (Civic) this week--she keeps putting down the armrest. Damn thing gets in my way!
