Currently have a FR SRI, no issues there. I used to have a 2JR SRI, that thing threw codes every couple hundred miles. I would recommend a SRI over a CAI simply for the fact that you can easily suck up water with those. Plus, it doesn't really have any performance benefits on a turbo car.
I’m not going into the debate of SRI vs CAI. I’ve had a CAI for nearly 75k miles without issue and had another car with a CAI for close to 90k miles. Anyway, an intake will only be for the turbo or recirc valve sound unless you tune for it. You can try the old trick of removing the lower snorkel on the intake box first and see how that suits you. But if you are tuned, or are going to be tuned, then it’s up to you which you want. I will say one negative I have about my CAI is I can’t easily remove or clean the filter. I have to at bare minimum turn the wheel and pull back the fender liner. And I agree, stay away from the 2J intake (and their “tunes”). I had nothing but problems and many sporadic and reoccurring MAF (P0101) codes. Never had an issue with my Injen CAI.
