Hey folks

Bought a 2013 Nissan Juke about 2 weeks ago. Would define as mint condition,Carfax shows one owner, crazy person had oil changed every 3 months sometimes more often. 72 pages of maintenance ,incredible! No rust interior spotless, car loaded,AC heated seats, power mirrors you name it.112000 KHM,yes Canuck

Love the way it drives, feels like sports car but absolutely devastated By gas mileage.Bought this 1.6 litre Juke because my 3.6 litre Jeep Wrangler was putting me in poor house
How could I have been so stupid, not sure yet if gas mileage any better than 3.6 liter Jeep Wrangler, its not much better if at all. Nothing wrong with Juke runs beautifully,is not leaking gas. I would not share this stupidity with family or friends, too embarrassing .

I wrongly assumed a 1.6 litre motor equalled good gas mileage. I had rented a Chevy Cruz while Jeep being customed painted, was incredible on gas, like 20 bucks took me hundreds of miles

I have a country driveway that is so steep people are afraid to attempt in summer. People are dumb, they phone for various reasons, such as hooker on Sat night, they cant get up hill,or afraid to try,Am talking steep.Neighbour's told me I am first person to get up regularly in winter, last guy rolled 4×4 rolled across road taken to hospital. I have family that park at bottom.in summertime out of fear.

So aside from horrible gas mileage,Juke goes up quite nicely, but its been very cold with crusty hard snow. It has only drive,no low gear. In Jeep I put in super low low range dont have to touch brake. The Juke slides down dangerously, but i find if I stop at top of frightening steep hill, and add ever so light touch to break on and off,I can.get down without crossing road. Am in Canada I should try and sell.while under 36 day safety check
.
Aside from that was interested in a meaty tire, perhaps a off road tire. I searched on forum but was not very helpful in most cases others asked same ? as mine but were met with ......lots of discussions on tires, being dismissed to go search. Well I searched and searched and was very unsatisfaturary ,the photos posted are no longer available, nobody answered simple ? whats the meatiest tire that can go on 2013 Nissan Juke without lifting. Most of these ? Met with tiresome answers of use the freakin search, these were ? Of other people

Seems like you've already made up your mind on whether or not you like the car or not

The fact that you're making this post asking for opinions to me gives you your answer..... if you're unsatisfied with it then give it back and get something else

Can you describe whether you have FWD or AWD and exactly the fuel economy you're getting it would help people answer your questions.

I've run a good Blizzak winter tire and it handles as good as anything else, no idea on max tire width. Juke will never be the best in the snow. The AWD is good but the traction control is atrocious. The FWD isn't the best but a winter set of wheels would go a long way.

My 2012 Juke AWD/CVT brand new got 30-31 mpg (US gallon) on the highway with some effort. After maybe 20-30k miles the best I could get was about 27 mpg though it was at that time modified with bolt-on parts. Mixed driving I got about 20 mpg typically. Near the end of it's life I was only getting 20 city & 24 mpg highway.

Combination of things I believe hurts the fuel economy over time:

1) Clogged fuel injectors
2) Fuel rail leak @ pressure sensor
3) Fouled intake runners & intake valves
4) Failing 02 sensor
5) Slipping CVT

Maintenance records sounds like the owner at least changed the oil often but these DI cars are very finicky and the first thing to take a hit is the fuel economy. This is kind of a known thing for Jukes to suffer fuel economy loss over time. If you want to put a little money into it to diagnose/replace stuff in the hope that'll improve then that might be an option.

I get 24-26 mpg in my RS and considering how I drive it I think that's pretty good?

I feel like it's ridiculously cheap to run this thing honestly. Some of those gains get tossed out the window though come my yearly cvt dump and fill because NS2 is like printer ink.

Seriously though I've always been impressed by the gas mileage on this.

I have a 2013 juke sv 6speed fwd, manual of course:) ...gas consumption is 9.3 liter per 100 km.
There is a Juke thread on fuel economy, search for it and it might help you.

That is equivalent to 25.3 mpg. The 2013 FWD Juke is rated at 27 city/32 highway.
Driving style is a big one. To get good/great fuel economy in a Juke you basically have to drive
it like you are hypermiling, different than other vehicles. Keep the revs below 3500 rpm, taller gears, etc.
and very little throttle angle. Can't compare it to other vehicles but you aren't that far off either.

It's lowish, but not something I would freak out about. Like I said previously, couple of areas
I would look at to improve it. Winter fuel with high ethanol will cause a big hit in fuel economy.

Another couple of things to try out:
  • Replace spark plugs
  • Switch to fuel with lower ethanol content
  • Try switching to lower octane (i.e. 89 octane for commuting)
  • Get a 4-wheel alignment
  • Check tire pressure

SLC only made a point and was not condescending at all. Your issues with the Juke are MPG and traction. Traction is fixable. It is Winter........ :

1. Winter blended fuel will yield 2mpg less than summer fuel. Idling Kills fuel mileage so warming up your Juke will knock a point away so figure 3mpg right away.

2. Tires mean everything with traction. If you truly want the best out of any car in the Winter. You need dedicated snow tires and throw them on for Winter only.

Your Juke will do 100% better with better tires. Any car will do better in the Winter with dedicated snows.

Ha thanks Mac,

I thought the response was more funny than anything and got a good laugh out of it.

But yes his mind seemed pretty made up already so lol.....

Intake valve cleaning could help with MPG, when was the last time the intake valves were cleaned? Good point about winter gas that will knock down your MPG and along those same lines the cold weather itself kills MPG. Also the type and condition of the tires you run will effect MPG make sure your running proper PSI and check regularly as PSI tends to fluctuate more when the weather is cold, snow tires yield the worse MPG. And as mentioned how you drive effects MPG the most. Lots of variables when it comes to MPG.
