    estimated range

According to the manual, my Juke (2WD) has a 13.25 gallon gas tank. As my tank nears empty, the estimated range starts counting down telling me I need to fill my tank and I let it get down to single digits, but when I fill my tank, it only requires 10 gallons, which means I still have over 3 gallons left. Does anyone else have this problem?
    PS: LOVE my car!

Yes there was another thread on this.
but I have the same problem I still cant figure it out, theres a lot of different answer but none have been verified i believe.
I have been wanting to take the fuel pump out and pump gas in it to see how much it will take in reality but I havent found the time to do that

It's common with these Jukes and perhaps other Nissans. They prefer to err on the side of caution and while the tank may actually be 13.2 gallons for capacity, the warning lights are set to illuminate much earlier than the manual would otherwise suggest.

Wouldn't it be awful if your car actually ran out of gas when the gauge said empty? Empty means "OMG fill up with some gas yesterday!", not, "I will stop running now."

The reason that the Remaining Miles estimate is an estimate rather than a guage is that after your Juke is older, no matter what gas you buy, there will be an ever growing pocket of sediment at the bottom of the tank. If you were to run the tank dry, you would be sucking this sediment into your engine & injectors. The repair cost far outweighs the inconvenience of stopping a little more often to fill up. as far as range goes, i have an SL AWD with the smaller tank and routinely exceed 300 miles/tank without getting into the danger zone.

Sorry. I'm a new user and didn't know about the other thread. Unfortunately, this site doesn't allow me to delete my post. Maybe the mods can just combine the two or delete this one.

Well considering that the fuel pump draws at the lowest part of the tank the whole water and sediment statement is a fallacy since sediment and water are heavier than fuel they are the first thing that will be sucked up not the last lolol almost every manufacturer has a built in fail safe on there fuel gauges so be happy you have a reserve just fill it up ,another thing to remember when running your tank low that the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel it is submersed in and when you run the tank low and are going around turns the pump can over speed and cavitate witch is not good for the pump a good rule of thumb is never run under a 1/4 tank and your pump will last longer,

In my 300zx, the pump hangs down from the top of the tank and and sits a few inches above the bottom of the tank. The mesh sock around the fuel pump intake never hits the bottom of the tank, presumably because of the sediment idea.

I've pulled gas tanks out of 20 year old cars and I've never seen more than what I'd call a thin "film" of sediment in the bottom of the tank. As you drive anything in the bottom of the tank gets sloshed around and sucked up by the fuel pump. In the old days (steel gas tanks) you could have rust inside the tank. But they haven't used steel tanks in most vehicles for a long time.
