Bicycle owners... What are my options?

Just got a new mountain bike and it's much to large to fit in the back even with the seats down and the front passanger seat leaned forward. So unfortunatly if I wanna go anywhere signifigently far away to ride the bike I need an external carrier. So show me what you've got, or what you recommend, and where you got it, and hell even how much if you remember

    Thanks guys!

By the way I own a FWD, just read the only thread I could really find containing mention of bicycles and that seems to matter. The bike is around 40lbs i'm estimating.

Take the wheels off. It will fit.

I'm not sure if there is a receiver for the fwd, but I'm thinking there is. You could get a Thule roof rack as well.

My cost was $150 for a curt receiver plus free Thule receiver bike rack from parents. I have an awd though.

That's one heavy bike!! What did you get? If you don't mind my asking.

Most mountain bikes have quick reliese wheels, it takes me 20 seconds to get the wheels off mine. I have a Thule roofrack for mine, i'm also throwing a reciever on it soon for a hitch mount. Multiple options for multiple bikes.
Sure therapy helps, but screaming obscenities is cheaper.

Here's how I carry mine but I have the AWD. You'll be fine with a roof rack. My bike weighs about 28lbs so yours must be a downhill bike.

Just went out to the Juke to see if I could get my bike in the back. I ride a Marin Quake 7.8 Freeride bike, which weights in at 42lbs.

    For size reference.

I folded down the seats, opened both side doors as well as the hatch, and laid a large blanket down to protect the interior. Here are the pics.

Had to pull the front wheel.

Just barely fits with the hatch closed. I'd put a towel over the wheel, just to protect the hatch if the bike bounces into it.

Had to stick one side of the bars down into the space between the drivers seat and the rear seat. It's easier to do if you lead with that side of the bars when loading the bike. Kinda hard to turn the bars after the bike is in.

    Hope this helps!

The quickest, easiest and cheapest option is a hatch-mounted rack. I purchased this for my previous vehicle, a Scion xB, and it held two mountain bikes on a 9-hour ride to the mountains of Tennessee, and an 8 hour over to Nag's Head for some shoreside riding.

    Thule-910XT Passage 2 Bike

You can even leave it on and raise the hatch if you need, as long as the bikes are unloaded. For FWD, you could also get a hitch and a rear mount, though it would be at least double the cost. When I got the Juke it wasn't listed in the fitment guide yet, you'll need to call Thule to get the right setting, or I can check mine when I get off work and post.

Ok, to respond to all the posts in 1 post.

MikeWantsAJuke The Bike is from "Genesis" it's their 29inch model and the front wheel is not detatchable as i'd have to re-align and setup the front brake on the disk every time. The front wheel is attatched with nuts only so it's gotta stay on unfortunatly. And i'm trying to keep the cost down as the bike only cost me $200.

@terrasmak Considering the roof rack, just don't want it to look crappy... my juke have a very "street" look to it going on and some roof-rack might kill it lol.

@MtnBkr Very nice bike, and juke! Thanks for the pics, I have no idea what type it is, this is a "beginner bike" for me to just see if I enjoy it like I used to and after that make a solid purchase for a nicer one. Any idea who much the setup cost with the hitch/carrier? I'd like to do that but for now the bike cost $200 and i'm thinking your setup cost more then that.

@OUTsane Very nice bike! And juke! Love those leather seats! Thanks for all the pics and effort I really appreciate it. Love the other 2 wheeled rides to!

@vettereddie probably the winner right there. Something I can put on when needed (Don't plan on hitting the trails daily, probably just weekends and during the week tear around the urban areas where I live) and remove without damage and a ton of effor when i'm finished. I'm looking into it now. Appreciate it!

I brought it home with the hatch wide-open yesterday after work. Just FYi if your careful you can drive with the hatch open @ 40mph and not mess anything up. I did about 10 miles and a few really slow turns haha

Bringing the bike to a shop today to get everything dialed in so I can take the bike out and really enjoy it, yesterday the gears weren't shifting properly so it kinda bummed me out.

A hitch will set you back a little over $100 , the carrier will run you between $80 and $400 depending on the style you want. Also with a hitch setup, you can also run a cargo carrier off the back if you need extra space.
