vibration and noise while idling in drive/gear

I have searched and found much on motor mounts but it seems filling them or purchasing another mount addresses other issues for Juke owners then the one I'm having.

When at idle and in drive at a stop light for example it sounds like there is an exhaust rattle near the firewall. When I put the car on the lift to look all seems fine and everything is tight with plenty of clearance. I think it may have something to do with a worn out motor mount which may be letting the motor flex to much when in gear due to the load on the motor.

Has anyone else had this same issue? Seems to worsen when A/C is on (i.e. more load on the motor) as well. Once I let off the brake the rattle/vibration goes away and doesn't return until I'm at another light.

Car is a FWD 2011 Juke with CVT. 84k miles on the clock and a daily driver.

Thanks for any help in advance.

    Bryan

I remember hearing someone talk about a heat shield rattle that was hard to diagnose. Maybe the same?

Does the engine flex seem ok when looking at the engine while someone starts the car and puts it into D, R etc. in the garage?

Could be a mount, but hard to tell without checking. Bad motor mounts can result in a range of odd sounds. There are a few heat shields on the car, with 2 catalytic converters, etc., so I would look carefully there first.

I agree with MacGyver. Those superfluous exhaust heat shields on my wife's Juke ping and groan for like 10 min after shut down. Fortunately no issues while driving. So far they haven't loosened up yet, but eventually the likely will. Just another good reason to delete those cats...

I had this issue three times. First time the heat shield that protected the firewall from the down pipe (vertical section) was loose. Second time the heat shield protecting the undercarriage from the mid pipe (horizontal section) was loose. Third time was actually my exhaust rattling up against the sub frame and gas tank heat shield due to a bent exhaust hanger.

Check your exhaust for clearance and start tapping on all your heat shields, I'm sure you'll find something loose underneath.
