I'm one of those people who got an SL and thought the Fosgate EcoPunch package sucked ***. I've got a decent ear for crisp mid's and highs, and I have been very disappointed with the RF package. I'm completely new to car audio--I love quality sound though, so this is my first undertaking to improve my ICE. I've been doing a ton of research and reading through a lot of SQ threads.
So I've purchased a bunch of components to do my install. I figured I'd push for SQ with some bigger bass capacity where necessary. I'm eclectic with music--everything from metal to dubstep and hip hop, so I'm mainly looking for tight responsiveness and accuracy with low bass capacity. I don't need crazy loud. So far I've got:
IMAGE DYNAMICS CXS62V.2 components
Cadence XAH-125.2 component amp
Image Dynamics IDQ15v2 D2
Hifonics X1500.1D X14 mono sub amp
I bought the components in 2ohm because I plan on swapping them into the Ecopunch system first before I finish the rest.
The sub is 2ohm but will be wired 4ohm for efficiency. I'm going to have to build my own sealed enclosure, and I have it specced at 12x18x18 to reach ID's recommendation of 1.55cuFt. The IDQv2's are nice for hatches as they fit in such small enclosures so I'll still have some cargo space in the back. The 15" seems a lot for SQ but these subs have been favorites of home and car audio SQ enthusiasts for a long time. The only problem is finding them--I grabbed mine for $120 but spent 6 hours driving last saturday to get it
I plan on documenting the wiring and upgrade here. I have a few questions though:
Will I need to upgrade from the existing speaker wires? It seems like with the EcoPunch in place I could just swap amps and speakers on the existing harness, but I haven't heard anything about the quality of it.
Do I need a capacitor for a system of this size? The amp will be running 600RMSx4ohm but with the gain turned down slightly. I think the IDQ15V2 is only rated 450rms but a lot of the comp guys including the former owner advised giving it 550watts and it handles it with no problems. The components will be running 125 watts rms to each side.
